Frequently Ask Questions

December 14, 2022 Special Vote – Frequently Asked Questions

*Why was the purchase price not on the initial post card that was sent
out?
The initial post cards had to be printed prior to the Board of
Education meeting that determined the not to exceed $70,000 purchase
amount. In fact the official required legal notices have been published in the
Press Republican the mandatory four times leading up to the Special Vote
(10/31, 11/9, 11/23, and 12/7), and the same information has been on the
District’s Website as well.

*Why would the District be interested in the Knights of Columbus
property?
The property is adjacent to the Elementary Building, and for
many years there has been an arrangement allowing for the District to use
the parking lot for Elementary drop-offs, pick-ups, and other visitation to the
Elementary building. The property also provides a buffer zone between a
welcomed new business that sits next door to the Knights of Columbus
property.

*What about the old building on the property, isn’t it a liability for the
District?
The building would have no use to the District, as it is in bad
shape and would require a lot of repairs to be eligible for use. Currently the
Knights of Columbus have the power turned off and have potential
interested parties in the roof, windows, and other items possibly right down
to the studs. With that said, the agreement between the District and the
Knights of Columbus involves the demolition of the building prior to the
transition of ownership to the District.

*When will any of the work be done on the property and when will the
closing for the transition to the District take place?
The work on the
building and property will not take place until the spring of the year and the
winter ground has thawed. The District will not proceed with a closing and
transition of the property until after the building has been demolished and
the plot can be filled in and covered with the proper foundational material to
create a larger parking lot for the Elementary building.



*What are the future plans of the District for the property? The District
plans to continue to use the property as a parking lot for the Elementary
building, and hopes to someday pave the parking lot and institute a traffic
pattern allowing for distinct lanes for entrancing and exiting while
maximizing the parking opportunities.
