March 1, 2023
Dear Northern Adirondack Families,
I hope this memo finds you well. As you may be aware, our school district had included four Emergency days on the 2022 – 2023 academic calendar, which could be utilized for unexpected closures due to inclement weather, natural disasters, poor road conditions, or other emergencies. Unfortunately, we have exhausted all four Emergency days due to this winter’s extreme weather events. In light of this, we have decided that from this point forward, any additional Emergency days will result in a transition to remote learning for our students which was indicated as our plan on the district calendar for this year. We believe this will ensure the continuity of education and minimize disruption to our student’s learning.
Our district has been working to equip our teachers and staff with the necessary tools and training to facilitate effective remote instruction that is appropriate for the individual grade levels. We are confident that we can provide our students with the quality education they deserve, regardless of the mode of delivery. The modes of delivery by building level are included below.
As always, we will keep you updated on any changes or developments in our school schedule regarding Emergency days. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility. Please feel free to contact the building that your child attends if you have any questions or concerns.
Elementary (Pre K – 5)
All students will receive a paper packet that is to be kept home and completed in the event of an Emergency day. Following the Emergency day, the packets are to be returned to school. If used, a newly created packet will be sent home for the potential of another emergency day.
Middle School (6 – 8) and High School (9 – 12)
Students should transport their Chromebooks and chargers daily to and from school in preparation for an Emergency day. On an Emergency day, students will use Google Classroom to log into their regularly scheduled classes at the normal starting time or the adjusted schedule time if a 2 hour delay was in place. Whether it is an Odd or Even day will be included in the Emergency day announcement. Students may be presented with a lecture, class discussion, and/or an assignment, however they may or may not be required to stay logged in for the entire duration of the class period. All of that will be determined by the teacher on the day of the Emergency day event. For those with connectivity issues, please consult with your teachers involving Google Classroom offline work that will compensate for the method previously described.
