Hey Bobcats, what a beautiful day it was Saturday to recognize our senior fall athletes. Thanks to all the parents, families, coaches, players and our superintendent for taking the time and making the plan to let our student athletes know that despite the safety measures we are employing keep our school running and our kids safe we recognize the effort all of these athletes put into our soccer program for the four years they have been playing for NAC. Congratulations Emily Brooks, Emma Rabideau, Myah Mitchell, Madalyn Seguin, Emily VanValkenburg, Anika Knight, Aiden Lambert, Zoey Magoon, Cameron Trombley, Matt Jarvis, Nolan Knight, Wyatt Warren, Ethan Forkey!

The Northern Adirondack School Board will meet at 6:00PM Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at the Elementary Big Gym. An Executive session to discuss the employment history and personnel related business will take place at approximately 6:05PM. The board will reconvene for public session business at about 6:30PM. Agenda items will include a Building Construction Survey, an Opening of Schools Report, Staff Appointments, and Updates by the Superintendent. The full agenda is available on the district’s website, www.nacs1.org. The meeting is open to the public, however COVID-19 protocols will be in place including a temperature check, COVID-19 symptom attestation, and masks are mandatory while remaining socially distant. NAC Elementary celebrated Halloween with a STEM-inspired trick-or-treat around the halls of school today! Treats were delivered by robot, Rube Goldberg devices, and Halloween-themed social distance chutes.

Even though last Friday, October 23rd was the deadline for changing learning formats, it is important to know that this Friday, October 30th is the deadline for Transportation Changes. Please let the main office of your child's building or the Transportation Office know if you plan to change your transportation plan from riding the bus to parent transport, or the opposite switch. The P-EBT Benefit Cards for the school breakfasts and lunches from March through June have been arriving at NAC homes over the past couple of weeks. If you haven't received your card and were eligible, give them a call at 1-833-452-0096. Some known issues have been with mailing address discrepancies, but a phone call has cleared that up.

Elementary Memory Books Are Here! Please be on the look-out for your child’s 2019-20 Memory Book (yearbook) which is being sent home this week. Each one has been labeled with the student’s name in an effort to help them keep better track of their book. In the past we have had issues with students losing, misplacing, or having their book stolen, so please help your child to take care of his/her book as we cannot replace them. Also, for those who may still want to buy one, we have a limited number of copies left. You may send in cash or a check for $18.00 made out to “NACS” if you would like to purchase one. Enjoy reliving the memories!

The Elementary students are picking pumpkins! Thanks to Reyell's Farm Stand, each NAC Elementary student will be bringing home a pumpkin from our very own "pumpkin patch!"

Dear Northern Adirondack Students, Parents, and Community, A conversation was had during the regularly scheduled School Board meeting last night between the Superintendent of Schools and the 7 member Board of Education in regards to the Fall Athletics season. When the Governor of New York publicly announced that school sports would be allowed to start on September 21st without consulting Superintendents or school districts, he did not take into consideration the requirements that were necessary to reopen schools for academic purposes. Unfortunately, this was another major decision that was unfairly put into the hands of local school districts already struggling to safely open schools with all of the newly mandated requirements. Many of the guidelines and requirements in place and followed for the reopening of schools for academic purposes have been ignored or watered down in regards to interscholastic athletics, and the consensus decision of the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education was that they are not comfortable or in agreement with that. For example, a current Physical Education class must have students remain 12 feet apart while wearing masks for activities that raise the heart rate of the students, however student athletes would be allowed to practice and play sports like soccer as normal with mask wearing encouraged but not mandated based on the willingness and comfort of players. Ultimately a unified decision was made to cancel the Fall Athletics Season for Northern Adirondack Central School District. A decision will be made regarding the Winter Athletics Season as we get closer to the start date of that season.
